…has been here for something like 400 years at the start of the mountains and the pack horse trails to the West. Forever associated with Donald Campbell and his world water speed record attempts, the pub remains a classic Lakeland Inn of rare quality.
Overlooking the village, a hotel extension was added over 100 years ago when the railway came (in 1859) and left (in 1962). The Sun is still here though and offers a unique mix of four star Inn, conservatory restaurant, great pub and the kind of comfortable informality and atmosphere that many attempt but few achieve.
