ABOUT US

The Sun at Coniston is a pub, diner and four-star Inn. With an excellent location beneath the mountain of Coniston old man, the Sun Inn overlooks the picturesque village of Coniston.

At the centre of the Sun Inn is an excellent pub with lots of character including stone walls, oak beams and a bar made from local slate. The public has a Victorian range that heats the water and adds to the traditional atmosphere.

Donald Campbell is honoured in the newly built Boat Room which shows the Sun’s association with Donald Campbell and his attempts to break the speed record on Lake Coniston.

This Sun Inn has been a fixture in the Coniston for over 400 years, located at the beginning of the packhorse trails to the Western Lake District. The public remains a real traditional classical Lake District Inn of outstanding quality.

With an aspect above the village of Coniston the hotel was extended around 100 years ago when the railway bought in new tourists eager to sample the delights of  Lakeland. Although the railway left the village in 1963, the Sun remains with its great restaurant, informal atmosphere and comfortable rooms.
